About Ancona
Ancona became one of the major ports of the Adriatic between the thirteenth and fourteenth century, second only to Venice. However, in later years Ancona, like other Italian towns, became the scene of many battles connected to the wars of independence, and was also the target of foreign occupations, including the massive air bombing campaigns during World War II, which destroyed whole areas of Ancona, and badly damaged the port.
Ancona Port
A historic Italian port on the East Coast, Ancona offers frequent sailings to Greece, Montenegro, Albania and Croatia. All of these connections, including special offers, can be booked online with AFerry.
Ancona port facilities
The Port of Ancona has numerous facilities for passengers, including a small cafe, toilets, and ample seating. Due to the increase in passenger traffic over the past few years, the Ancona port authority is now in the process of restructuring the port facilities. There are also facilities to accomodate disabled passengers.
Getting to Ancona port
By car
Ancona is connected to the rest of Europe through Milan and Bologna, with the A1 and A14 motorways. The Adriatica is accessible through the SS16 highway, while the SS76 links Ancona to Rome. It is possible to reach the port of Ancona from both north and south. Follow the highway to Ancona; once there, follow the signs leading to the exit 'Ancona Centro' (town centre), then follow the directions to the 'Porto'.
By train or bus
Trains and buses depart frequently from the station and lead to the port. The port railway station is only 5 minutes walking from the Passengers Terminal.
From the airport
If you are arriving at Ancona airport, you can either take a train from the airport to the main Ancona train station and then walk, or ride a bus to the ferry terminal, or take a taxi from the airport to the ferry terminal.
