About the Aegadian Islands

The Aegadian Islands are a group of small, mountainous rocky islands off the coast of Sicily. There is evidence to show that humans have inhabited the Aegadian Islands for hundreds of thousands of years, with Neolithic and Paleolithic paintings found in the caves of Levanzo.

Lesser known to tourists than the neighbouring Sicily or Aeolian Islands, you'll get a more authentic local experience in the Aegadian Islands. That said, the Aegadian Islands are set up well for tourism with fantastic accommodation, restaurants, cafés, shops, bike hire and boat trips available.

Travel around the Aegadian Islands

Travelling between the Aegadian Islands is best done by ferry. You can relax on deck and experience the coastal beauty of the islands from the boat. You can book ferries around the Aegadian Islands with AFerry.

Travelling within one of the Aegadian Islands is simple. Favignana is the only island with a road network and restrictions apply when bringing cars to the island, so you are better off leaving your vehicle in the car park at Trapani. Cycling is the most enjoyable and practical way to get around the islands, which isn't too taxing as the islands are small.

Things to see in the Aegadian Islands

Like most island groups, fishing is a big part of the culture in the Aegadian Islands. One of the best things to do on the islands is to accompany local fishermen as they harvest from the sea.

Island hopping is popular for tourists and can be done booking scheduled ferries with AFerry, or by taking a boat trip from one of the harbours. Many of the boat trips will take you to caves, grottoes, secluded beaches with opportunities to swim in places you would otherwise not reach.

On land, there is plenty to explore and you can do so by hiring bikes or buggies, or you can simply hike on foot. The mountainous landscape offers fantastic views across the sea and the coastline, and you can also find yourself hiking through ruins.

With the Aegadian Islands, you can explore a rich history and landscape, unspoilt by mainstream tourism.
