La Gomera is 14km in diameter making it the second smallest of the Canary Islands. La Gomera attracts far less tourists than some of its more popular neighbours, making it an ideal getaway for those looking for peach and quite rather than crowds and nightlife. The terrain has meant the island is a lot less developed, with no real tourist towns. However, this does mean that there are some fantastic hiking trails, a must do for any keen walker.
Things to Do and See
La Gomera is much more about nature rather than extreme sports and common tourist activities. On the island you can enjoy numerous boat tours, taking you to hard to get to places around the island and past beautiful valleys, sheer cliff-faces and isolated inlets. There is also the opportunity to whale watch. This tour is a must for and island visitor, with the chance to see dolphins and even whales such as sperm, finback, minke and sei.
Due to the Atlantics constant wind, La Gomera is an ideal spot for sailors. With isolated bays and beaches there will be plenty of opportunities to have a break and enjoy the island.
La Gomera has some fantastic diving opportunities, with the best being on the south of the island. Here you can see bizarre rock formations, and an array of fish and coral. You may be surprised to know that many subtropical fish can be spotted, including trumpet fish, parrot fish, clown fish, stingrays, eagle rays, electric rays, sierras, barracudas, tuna and zachis.
Hiking and cycling is another popular activity on the island. There are numerous trails leading to some magnificent spots where you can take in the islands beautiful surroundings. Trails include old donkey paths, steep hills, narrow tracks and forest paths.
