More About Taiwan

Taiwan lies 110 miles from the South Eastern coast of mainland China. In Tiawan you can expect a hot humid climate for most of the year. With monsoon season in January to March, and scorching hot weather from June-September, October to December is the best time to go for a happy medium.

Taiwan is one of Asia's best kept secrets. Surrounded by more popular tourist destinations it doesn't always get the credit it deserves. However, this is what makes Taiwan so appealing. There are some amazing sights in Taiwan, both natural and man-made, from stunning cliffs and the world's best hot springs, to the bright lights and architecture on display in Taipei.

Major cities in Taiwan are well connected with motorways and railways. Many buses are air-conditioned and there is an abundance of taxi services available.

Taiwan travel guide

Taiwan, also known as 'Ilha Formosa' or 'Beautiful Island' is one of Asia's best kept secrets.

Taiwan is an island half the size of Scotland. With a population of over 23 millions people, it is one of the most densely populated places in the world. Major cities are bustling and crowded, but if you want to get away from that the steep mountains and lush forests are a contrasting alternative.

Many locals consider themselves 'children of the sweet potato'. This is because the island of Taiwan resembles a sweet potato, and that the sweet potato is a popular crop for many of the farms.

Things to see in Taiwan

The National Theatre in Taipei is a striking structure in itself with it's iconic orange roof, but it's what happens inside that is truly special. It is Taiwan's primary performing arts venues, hosting a stream of events throughout the year.

Those seeking natural landmarks should look no further than Taroko Gorge. The Liwu River runs through the gorge creating deep valleys, ravines and waterfalls. There are many hiking trails around the park which allow you to see the marble walled canyons, huge cliffs and mountain peaks up close.

The Longshan Temple in Taipei is worth a visit if you are interested in religious culture. Despite being one of the smaller temples in the city, it is one of the most popular as it is truly unique and excudes a warmth, not found in other temples.

The National Palace Museum is home to the world's largest and finest collection of Chinese art. The collection is too large for the museum display so the art is on rotation. Some pieces date back thousands of years.
