About Liverpool

Liverpool Ferry Port is one of UK's major passenger and freight ports and covers both banks of the River Mersey. It offers ferries to the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and Ireland, all of which can be booked through AFerry.

Liverpool, with its famous waterfront on the River Mersey, is besides a great shipping port also an industrial center. King John launched it on its road to glory when he granted it a charter in 1207. Before that, it had been a tiny 12th-century fishing village, but it quickly became a port for shipping men and materials to Ireland.

The City of Liverpool has been undergoing a massive redevelopment as in 2008 Liverpool is European Capital of Culture.

Passengers traveling with P&O Irish Sea, there is a local parking nearby the P&O Irish Sea Terminal.

For passengers traveling with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company a new 24 hour car park has been opened at Liver Street and is operated by Q Park.

Getting to Liverpool port P&O Irish Sea Terminal

From Liverpool City Centre
Follow the A565 Southport/Liverpool Freeport for 4 miles. Keep in the left hand lane following signs for Freeport/Gladstone. On approach to the roundabout, take the slip road to the left marked 'Docks'. The Port of Liverpool will be straight ahead.

From the North
Follow the M6 towards Liverpool/Birmingham. At junction 26, exit onto the M58 towards Liverpool/Skelmersdale/Southport and follow for 11 miles. Use the right hand lane to merge onto the A5036 and follow for 3 miles. Take the 2nd exit at the Seaforth roundabout signposted Freeport/Gladstone. The Port of Liverpool will be straight ahead.

From the South or East
Follow the M62 towards Liverpool. At junction 6, exit onto the M57 towards Docks/Prescot/Southport and follow for 10 miles. You'll follow a slight left onto A5036 and follow for 3 miles. Take the 2nd exit at the Seaforth roundabout signposted Freeport/Gladstone. The Port of Liverpool will be straight ahead.

Frequent express trains depart London's Euston Station for Liverpool, a 2 3/4-hour trip. There is also frequent service from Manchester, a 45-minute ride away.

You will find the Norton Street Bus and Coach Station approx 500 yards from Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station. Taxis are available at most times on the station rank. Allow yourself though at least 60 minutes for bus or taxi transfers.

Getting to Liverpool port Isle Of Man Steam Packet Terminal

Location Princes Landing Stage, near the Pier Head. By Road Access to the edge of the city is via the M6/M62 or M58. From the M62, follow signs to the City Centre and then Pier Head signs to the Princes Landing Stage. From M58 follow the A5036 and then the A565 to the Pier Head. From North Wales, take the M53, then the Wallasey Tunnel and the A59 to the Pier Head.

By Rail Liverpool Lime Street station, approximately 3km from the Landing Stage, offers connections with through services to many parts of the country. Allow up to 60 minutes for transfer between the station and the Pier Head by bus or taxi. James Street station (600m) has frequent local services to/from the Wirral and Chester
