About Melilla

Melilla, on the Mediterranean coast of Morocco, was originally a Phoenician settlement and has throughout history seen Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Vandal and Carthaginian rule. Melilla was conquered by Spain in 1492 and has been under Spanish administration ever since; this is reflected in the city's typically Andalusian character. The port of Melilla has become an important port for trade and transportation between North Africa and Spain.

The fortified Melilla old town, Melilla la Vieja, is surrounded by defensive walls and has changed little since the 16th Century. Some other interesting sights to see in Melilla include the Plaza de EspaƱa square, which is surrounded by important local buildings, and the Zoruah Synagogue. Melilla also has a variety of museums to visit, including the Museum of Archaeology and History and the Military History Museum. Melilla is approximately 14 kilometres north of Nador; Nador is accessible from Melilla by train.

About Almeria

This is a popular port for Moroccan nationals living throughout Western Europe to go home for the summer and catch up with friends and relatives. It's also more convenient for people travelling from Spain to Algeria than other ports on offer. The name Almeria comes from the Arabic Al-Mariyat, which means "The Mirror of the Sea". Almeria city itself is a pleasant and largely modern city and offers a relaxing holiday destination and has a wealth of history to offer. Almeria offers a good selection of art galleries, museums and shops.
