About Volos

Volos is a port city in Thessaly on the mainland Greece, approximately 200 miles north of Athens. Volos is a modern city with mythical roots: while a large number of modern buildings were put up after catastrophic earthquakes in 1955, modern day Volos is built on the sites of the ancient city of Iolcos, homeland of mythological hero Jason and the Argonauts, as well as Magnesia, which in legend is the birthplace of the Centaurs. Today you can hike along the "Centaurs' Path", take a ride on the historic Pelion Railway or just enjoy the sunshine by the coast.
