About Almeria
This is a popular port for Moroccan nationals living throughout Western Europe to go home for the summer and catch up with friends and relatives. It's also more convenient for people travelling from Spain to Algeria than other ports on offer. The name Almeria comes from the Arabic Al-Mariyat, which means "The Mirror of the Sea". Almeria city itself is a pleasant and largely modern city and offers a relaxing holiday destination and has a wealth of history to offer. Almeria offers a good selection of art galleries, museums and shops.
Almeria Port
Home of the famous Alcabaza fortress, Almeria is a famous historical port that has been used as a bridge between North Africa and southern Europe for over 1,000 years. Today, you can still book ferries on this historic route through AFerry.
Almeria port facilities
There is a large undercover waiting and sorting area for cars, which should prevent you from overheating. There is a terminal building open 24/7, which includes a restaurant, café and small shop. Around the main building, there are a few other restaurants and a small supermarket. Hot and weary travellers may like to know that there are also showers available.
Getting to Almeria
Almeria is conveniently located just off the main Mediterranean costal route. Therefore, you can access the port from the A7 or the toll road AP-7. This offers easy access from Barcelona. If you are coming from Madrid, take the A4 south and cut across to the A7 via the A44 and A92.
