About Volos

Volos is a port city in Thessaly on the mainland Greece, approximately 200 miles north of Athens. Volos is a modern city with mythical roots: while a large number of modern buildings were put up after catastrophic earthquakes in 1955, modern day Volos is built on the sites of the ancient city of Iolcos, homeland of mythological hero Jason and the Argonauts, as well as Magnesia, which in legend is the birthplace of the Centaurs. Glossa is a village on the island of Skopelos in the northern Sporades Islands in Greece, approximately 6 miles northwest of Skopelos town. The Sporades Islands are well-known for their beaches, beautiful terrain, and coastal diving and snorkeling. In the neighborhood of Glossa is the chapel of Agios Ioannis, which featured in the 2008 film "Mamma Mia!". From the port of Glossa there are many ferries to the nearby islands.
